Iron
Iron is a vitally important mineral that we require for the creation of healthy haemoglobin found in red blood cells, that carry oxygen around the body. If Iron levels are low your body cannot make enough haemoglobin to carry the oxygen throughout the body. This can lead to chronic fatigue, affecting everything you do and compromising your immune system.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common symptoms in women during peri-to-post menopause and despite myth is really has very little to do with how much meat you eat.
During Peri-menopause with fluctuating periods and lower oestrogen, your body may change how it uses iron and this can cause iron levels to drop.
Anaemia is a common nutritional deficiency, and can lead to brittle nails, hair loss, exhaustion, low immunity, headaches, restless legs, breathless climbing stairs and heart palpitations to name a few.
It is important to understand the signs and symptoms of excessive low or high iron and act to regulate this.
If you are experience consistent fatigue or any of the symptoms outlined, arrange time with your GP and have your bloods tested.
