Transition Management during Menopause
The average age of living for a women is currently at 82 years of age
The average age of menopause is 51
This means we will live for 1/3 of our lives in menopause
(Not to mention the average 10 years prior of peri-menopause)
We are not expected to live 1/3 of our lives in turmoil and illness, therefore it is key that we consciously transition through this stage of our lives. Not just sticking with what we’ve always done and putting our power in the hands of doctors and hrt only to manage all the changes and adjustments. Interventions of course may help us, but these can not live our lives for us, what is our role?
There is so much going on and it was not coined ‘the change’ for no reason – everything is changing and we must change with it. We can no longer live our lives like we did when we were in our 20s and 30s, we must change our sleep hygiene, nutrition, support team and choices to align to the large shifts taking place.
This is a normal transition in a woman’s life, it can become problematic, very problematic if we do not own our power and use our wisdom as our guide to explore and address what needs focus and support.
One of the hardest approaches is surrendering an identity, how can we expand now, not shrink ourselves and how do we embrace this evolution.
So how do we manage this ongoing transition - we become empowered.
Menopause is not a pathology, it is a rite of passage.
Let’s start with radical self-care
Putting yourself first
Give yourself the time and space you need, right now, not sometime in the future
Fill your cup and continuously refill
Start to introduce your supports – gentle yoga, meditation, do less, rest more, movement, sooth your nervous system, connect to nature, breathe, breathe and breathe some more.
When you have started to build your menopause go-tos, you can start to dig into the deeper work.
What are some of your go-tos?
