Hormone Harmony

I mentioned last week much of our menopause symptoms are in fact hormone imbalance symptoms. We have a vast number of hormones and during this phase many of these can be tipped over or in turn impact one and other, think of it like an orchestra, a few of them out of sync and the show can’t go on.⁣

Let's spotlight two that come top of mind when talking about menopause, estrogen and progesterone. So what might be going on.. ⁣

During our peri-meno phase, often progesterone declines first, leaving estrogen continuing on as it was, but they need each other to flow in harmony and so estrogen levels staying high unchecked by progesterone can create an environment dominant in estrogen. ⁣

Estrogen is not just continuously staying high, it is fluctuating, but the lack of progesterone in the environment can lead to those unpleasant symptoms, weight gain, mood changes, insomnia, breast pain and so on... ⁣

Add environmental toxins and stress on top of that and things can quickly unravel.. ⁣

Once we move into post-meno our estrogen has nose dived and now both are low, reducing libido, causing fat storage shifts to the belly and we become at higher risk of osteoporosis and much more.. ⁣

It's important to know that neither are our enemies, in fact they are both critical to our wellbeing, but out of sync then they can be very problematic.⁣

It all sounds pretty daunting but the great news is we can master a level of control over these shifts by making empowered changes and fine tuning our focus on optimising what our hormones are receiving and addressing how our choices can influence their performance. ⁣

Top of the list is keeping our blood sugar levels stable, this is critical to supporting our hormone levels and managing stress. Next up reducing inflammatories and reducing our toxic load. Replacing with gut, brain and heart friendly nourishment and dialling up our movement. and then improving our sleep hygiene. There are so many more things we can do, but starting with these would produce significant positive shifts physically and mentally. ⁣

The journey can feel very overwhelming for many, I will continue to post insights, to help you feel you’re not alone, you’re not going crazy and there are ways to improve and take back control. If you feel you would like to dig deeper message me and we can discuss working together.⁣
